PhotoRejuvenation Facial FAQs
What areas can be treated?
PhotoRejuvenation treatments can be performed anywhere on the body where unwanted pigmentation is visible. Common treatment areas include the face, neck, decolletage, arms, upper back and lower legs.
How does the treatment work?
The laser works by targeting excess pigment on the surface of the skin, shattering it and bringing it to the surface. The pigment will then fade away by the skin’s natural shedding process over the course of 2-4 weeks.
What does the treatment feel like?
The treatment itself can feel quite hot, often described as a warm, ‘rubber band flicking’ sensation on the skin. the sapphire window on the treatment hand helps to minimise any discomfort throughout the treatment as it cools the skin to maintain a comfortable temperature.
How many treatments are required?
For optimal results, 2-4 treatments are usually recommended at 4-week intervals. The darkness and depth of the pigment within the layers of the skin will determine the number of treatments required.
Is there any downtime?
Approximately 24-48 hours post treatment, you will notice the treated pigmented lesions starting to darken. Do not pick at the treated areas. Treated pigment will exfoliate off the face in approximately one week, and off the body in approximately 2-3 weeks. You may also experience some heat within the skin, and some people experience swelling around the eye and mouth area for up to 2 days post treatment. To relieve the heat and swelling, a cool compress may be applied as often as required.
It is recommended to avoid the following post treatment:
- No exercise for 24 hours. Extend this if symptoms continue to persist.
- Avoid sun exposure and use a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen to prevent further sun damage.
- Avoid heat e.g. hot tubs, saunas, etc. for 1-2 days.
- Avoid skin irritants for 5-7 days post treatment (e.g. products containing tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, granular scrubs, etc.)
